ACACIA is an international science project

about asthma in African children.

Welcome to the ACACIA project.

We are a group of researchers based across Africa and the UK who are working together to understand and improve the health of young people with asthma in Africa. Numbers of young people with asthma have been rising dramatically in many African countries over the last two decades, especially in urban areas. So far there has been little research about this phenomenon and about the difficulties these children may be facing in managing their condition. Our study will allow us to understand more about children with asthma in Africa, and to develop interventions which can overcome barriers that are currently preventing good asthma management in African children. This study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

What we do

Our research teams would like to better understand the lives of young people with asthma in African cities.

Who we are

We are a group of researchers based at several universities across Africa and the UK working together for the ACACIA project.

Research Outputs

The ACACIA project is working on resources that can help us to improve asthma in African children.

Having asthma can make you feel different and excluded. We therefore developed 'In Control', a theatre, addressing attitudes to asthma. This is a school performance of the Nigerian version of the play: https://t.co/SgasURLZem developed with @Tramshed__ and @LASUOfficial
